Here’s a new twist on the folding chair—why not fold it down the middle rather on the back? That’s exactly what Canadian designers Solveig Johannessen and Krystin Clarke did with OSSA, a wooden indoor/outdoor seat. And when you fold it up, as an added bonus, it looks like a vanquished AT-AT.
OSSA is the Latin word for bones. Fittingly, the chair has spine-like joints up its center. But this wooden vertebrae opens and closes more like a book rather than curving like a skeleton. The convenient side-effect of its interesting fold is it would be easy to cart around. And the unintended consequence is beautifully designed chairs at your tailgates, block parties, or battles on Hoth. [Contemporist]
